Staying In with Italpasta Mac & Cheese

If I am given the choice of going out or having a night in, 80% of the time I will choose to stay in. As the temperature drops, the more I want to just cozy up at home and have comfort food. Italpasta sent me a package earlier this month to feed this little anti-social habit of mine, and I definitely put it to good use.

Italpasta is a pasta manufacturer, and has been making pasta for you and your family since 1989. I am sure you have seen Italpasta before at any grocery story you visit - in the pasta aisle, of course. I know I have! As I do cook for myself, and always crave pasta, Italpasta is a staple in my apartment. I always have bags of rigatoni and boxes of spahgettini in my cupboards. But now, Italpasta has come up with prepared pasta dinners. Their Macaroni and Cheese dinner comes in three varieties - regular, extra creamy, and white cheddar. So much fun!

As macaroni and cheese is one of my favourite (if not, my ultimate favourite) comfort food, I was more than happy to be a little nostalgic as I prepared this super easy dish for myself on a Sunday afternoon. So I kept my PJs on, put on those comfy socks, and got into the kitchen to start cooking.

Italpasta actually provided a recipe card in the box with instructions on how to make a mac & cheese pizza or a mac & cheese stuffed burger. Although that sounds absolutely delicious, I am more of a basic gal so I decided to just follow the box instructions and enjoy it like I did as a kid - without any of the fancy stuff.

I did exactly as the box told me to do, and although I am sure you really don't need me to tell you what to do, I will anyways hehe.

The best thing about this is that the only ingredients you need are also very basic: water, milk, and butter. You should have all of this in your fridge, which makes it very easy to make this any time!

Boil a pot of water, and pour in the macaroni from the box.

Let it boil for 5 minutes, or until your macaroni is al dente. Be sure to keep mixing it, or it will get stuck to the bottom of the pot, ugh (which happened to me haha, you'd think I'd master boiling pasta at this age...nope). Once it is ready, strain the macaroni. Once all the water is drained, pour it all back into the pot.

Open your package of cheese, and dumpppp it into your steaming, cooked macaroni. Try not to get too excited and spill the cheese everywhere (like I did, haha as you can sort of see in my photos).

Put in the rest of the ingredients: milk and butter.

Give it a good mix!

Within minutes, your macaroni will be coated with the cheese mixture and a delicious cheesey aroma will be present. Mmm, mmm, good!

And voila!!

Feel free to do something super creative with it, like mac 'n cheese muffins (I was going to do that, but I couldn't make it to that step lol I ate too much of it too quickly). Another idea that I ended up doing afterwards was add sliced up sausages to the mac 'n cheese. I just put a sausage on a grill, and then mixed it into the mac 'n cheese - SO good! Happy cooking!

Honestly, there's just something about enjoying mac 'n cheese in the comfort of your own home when the weather is cold outside - and might I mention, I was sitting in front of the fireplace wearing those comfy socks!!!
